Not a cornfield ~ Free
Wednesday, October 5, 7:30 p.m.
During the summer of 2005, this vast industrial brownfield was transformed into an agricultural oasis and site-specific artwork by Los Angeles-based artist Lauren Bon. The social and ecological concerns of the Not A Cornfield project are directly in dialogue with such land art or site projects as Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty or the work of Christo and Jeanne-Claude. Bon calls Not A Cornfield “a living sculpture in the form of a field of corn.”
A panel discussion with Lauren Bon, Matthew Coolidge and Ralph Rugoff to situate Bon's project within an art historical context while at the same time exploring the complex and often controversial nature of large-scale, artist-driven public works.
