An-My Lê's body of work questions the presumed authenticity of documentary photography by blending classic devices of both the landscape and the portrait genres to create oddly serene scenes of staged battle. Her most recent photographic series, 29 Palms, captures Iraq- and Afghanistan-bound marines training in California.
